Overview

Our Tax Analyst is our hands-on tax specialist, interacting and collaborating with business partners in various departments.  In this role, you'll ensure compliance with tax laws and minimize overall tax liabilities by preparing a variety of tax returns and supporting documentation, researching and reconciling tax issues, accruing Use Tax, preparing tax audit schedules, and working on special projects.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare tax returns, supporting schedules, and work papers:
    • Focus on Indirect Taxes, including Sales, Use, B&O, Property, and similar taxes
    • Run required reports and queries out of a number of software systems
    • Prepare supporting documents and work papers using Excel and other tools
    • Thoroughly reconcile, track, and document all work papers and files
  • File and pay all taxes accurately and timely
  • Prepare tax audit data, reports, schedules, and other information required by auditors
  • Provide support with tax planning, researching tax issues, testing tax aspects of systems
  • Prepare monthly tax-related journal entries and complete general ledger reconciliations
  • Analyze invoices (for expenses and also fixed asset projects) to accurately accrue use tax
  • Communicate with tax authorities regarding tax issues while keeping leadership aware
  • Maintain current knowledge of tax law, focusing on indirect taxes and unclaimed property

Qualifications

  • 2-4 years tax return preparation experience, either in a company or in public accounting
  • Intermediate level understanding of Sales & Use tax, property tax, and unclaimed property 
  • Beginner level understanding of US federal, US state, and Canadian income/franchise taxes
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel (advanced skills a plus)
  • Highly organized with ability to maintain thorough documentation of all tax work papers, research, notices, issues, requirement changes, and other work as required or assigned
  • Ability to produce deliverables accurately, timely, and with limited supervision
  • Attention to detail while being able to see big picture and impacts of tax decisions/results
  • Ability to multi-task and work with a sense of urgency in a dynamic environment
  • Proven ability to work independently and also as part of a team: 
    • Strong collaborative skills with a flexible and willing “can-do” attitude
    • Able to take own initiative to grow, learn, and accept new challenges
    • Adaptable and self-motivated to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities
  • Ability to identify, analyze, communicate, solve, and document problems and resolutions
  • BA or BS in Accounting, Finance, related area, or equivalent industry experience
