The Engineer – System Administration job plays a critical role in maintaining the stability of the IT Infrastructure running on Windows, Linux, and VMware.  This role requires level-two system support for each area of expertise.  This includes working closely with other technical departments, vendors and clients.


Core Accountabilities:

  • Design, develop, and engineer infrastructure solutions that enable larger scale projects and functionality.
  • Configure, rack, cable, install and configure hardware and software including OS, patches, and updates.
  • Provide tier 2 server/network/database support and assistance to clients and IT departments to reach problem resolution.
  • Work extended and/or off-hours as required to support 24x7 operations.
  • Support and participate in system backups and disaster recovery exercises.
  • Participate in patch management as well as mitigating vulnerabilities and implementing patches.
  • Own, track, and resolve incidents and changes assigned to the department.
  • Participate in day-time and night-time on-call rotation.


Education/Experience Required:

  • 4 year College Degree or related experience required
  • 3-5 years of progressive IT experience
  • Experience working in an IT role in a retail setting preferred
  • Proven capability to understand IT roles and responsibilities
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex issues
  • Experience with the following technologies:
    • Microsoft Windows – NT, 2000, 2003, 2008, 2012
    • RedHat Linux – 6.5
    • Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and GPO’s
    • Citrix
    • VMware
    • EMC SAN
    • Oracle Retail Applications
    • Microsoft BizTalk
    • Symantec NetBackup
  • Ability to provide excellent written and verbal communication with internal and external customers
  • Proven ability to be self-driven with the understanding of how to prioritize a complex and demanding workload
  • Ability to work well independently and as a team
